I can only hope. A local theatre that shows the "Live in HD" performances, lots of indie films, and some live acts showed "The Sound of Music" this afternoon as a sing-along. It was a fundraiser for a local charity, and for your $10 you got a fun bag with some props in it, an introduction explaining the items in the Fun Bag and when they were to be used, as well as coaching on what to say when certain characters came on the screen or certain actions (like saluting Captain Von Trapp or the hand gestures needed for Do Re Mi).
It was loads of fun, and nearly all of us there were first-timers. I do hope they decide to do it every year.
That sounds like great fun. I would love to read more details. What were the props?

Janie, there were two cards that we had to use for "How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria?" where one had a question mark (to be held up when singing the word how) and the other a picture of Julie Andrews (to be held up when singing the word Maria). They had pictures on the back, too, one with the word "flippergibbet" which you were to hold up when you sang that word and the other with a ghost like creature that was to represent the will o'the wisp, and yes, as with the others, you had to hold that up when you sang will o'the wisp.
DeleteOther props included an invitation to the ball, and we were instructed to raise up our hand that was holding it and yell out "To the ball!" just before that scene started, a piece of fabric, which we were to hold up when Maria is wondering how she can make play clothes for the children. We needed to yell out, 'Julie, look behind you!" just before she thinks to use the drapes for the clothes.
We also had a little sprig of fake white flowers meaning to be edelweiss, and a little popper that we were to pop when Maria and the Captain kiss.
If there's one near you, GO! They had the words on the screen, too, so you could sing along a bit more confidently, if, like me, you haven't seen the movie in a very long time.
I think I remember all the words.

That sounds fun. When I was in college, we used to go see The Rocky Horror Picture Show every few months and do all the fun stuff (throwing toast at the screen...) I once danced to the time warp ("Let's do the time warp again!") wearing my bra and a pair of shorts.....
