And now for something completely different

A friend of mine shared this link on facebook, and it got me to smiling. A number of my friends and acquaintances are in healthcare, and we hear so much about the bad stuff, that it tends to overshadow so many of the good things that occur daily, just because these folks come to work and do their jobs well.

So, take a few moments to enjoy something silly.

  1. My son in law just had some knee repair surgery and has waxed poetic about the anesthesia ever since. No one in the hospital could believe Mr. Mid fifites has never been hospitalized or had an IV.

    1. Joanne, I was in my mid-forties when I was in hospital with my broken leg, and it had been the first time I was a hospital patient since being born. The staff seemed to forget that, and the nurse did a double take when I told her I didn't know I could call her by pressing the red button.

I opted not to be put under, and preferred the epidural. The anaesthesiologist was on hand, just in case, and he gave me a couple whiffs of fentanyl. I had told everyone I need to be dosed like a child, and I was nearly out after 2 breaths. The anaesthesiologist was quite worried that I went out that fast, and I told him I hadn't gotten any sleep the night before waiting for the surgery, which was true. I also reminded him that I truly am a lightweight and that's why I preferred the epidural. Besides, I had chance to chat with him, something that doesn't happen a lot with other patients he has when he's actively working. We both laughed.

  2. Brilliant! "my bladder's full, I've got to pee..." That's brought back some recent memories! I went under the knife four times in a month last year. I was always worried about what I may have said while I was going under and coming out again, the mind boggles!

    1. Tom, it's so good to see you back! As I said in my reply to Joanne, only one hospital visit thus far, and i'll be quite glad if it's the only one I ever need. I opted to stay awake for my surgery, and when I was in the recovery room, Himself said he couldn't believe how good I looked. He was accustomed to seeing most people coming out of anaesthesia; whereas I was just tired from not sleeping the night before while waiting for my surgery.
